Self Defense

kravmaga2.jpg

I’m negotiating to sign up for private Krav Maga instruction in D.C., which I have been reliably informed is one of the most effective forms of personal self-defense. It’s another thing to add to or alternate with my gym work.

Good idea! you might want to have a look at "systema" . Very efficient as well.

Krav Maga is indeed very effective. Being a more eclectic style, it teaches you to make with what you have at an exact moment in time. Good luck.

I think it is always good to take an interest in combatives although in 99% of most situations you will be better served investing time into training with a firearm and learning the laws about concealed carry. Sambo is a good system for unarmed combatives but I am partial to good old fashioned Western style scientific wrestling, bare-knuckle boxing, and maybe some purring (shin-kicking). Tom,

You indicate you're "negotiating" to sign up for these Krav Maga classes. An interesting phrase, that. Are they so popular they're turning people away, such that you must negotiate for a spot? Or do they have requirements that must be met above and beyond paying their fees?
