Borat
My colleague Jude Blanchette introduced me to the uncomfortably funny work of Borat, the alleged Kazakh. I don’t think that the response to this work is evidence of much latent anti-Semitism, but it does show the astonishing power of group-think, especially when made easier by a few beers.
(Note: I do sympathize with the Kazakhs who are angry at being so represented, especially since the country is not known for anti-Semitism and has a far better record on human rights than many of its neighbors, although that’s admittedly setting the bar rather low.)
