April 29, 2007A HorrorA Kurdish journalist I know from Sulaimaniya sent me the links to video documentation of a truly horrifying case: a young Yezidi woman who was stoned to death in public for, apparently, a relationship with a Sunni man. Don’t watch unless you have a very strong stomach; it’s a terrifying reminder of how brutal “honor based” social codes can be. Kurdish Aspect has the story, as does Amnesty International. Thanks for posting this. I didn't watch the videos, but since I read about it yesterday morning, I have been unable to get that poor girl out of my mind. Her name is Du’a Khalil Aswad. |
